Jayne McHugh

 

Jayne McHugh brings years of experience to PCVC as a former college player, Olympian, professional player and D1 college coach and current Head Coach at Saint Mary’s High School. Jayne played at UOP where she earned her degree in Education. While in her senior year at University of Pacific, Jayne played in the inaugural NCAA National Championships. That same year, Jayne was named one of the six original All American players. While Jayne was completing her post graduate work she was selected to play on the USA International Team which traveled to Singapore, Hong Kong and China.  In 1988, she was then chosen to be a member of the 1988 Olympic Volleyball Women’s Team.  They competed in Seoul, South Korea that year. After the Olympics, Jayne continued to play professional for the San Jose Gold Diggers.  She was then hired as an assistant coach at UOP in 1989 where she coached for over 17 years. She completed her successful career there in 2005, with the previous 5 of those years as Pacific's head women's volleyball coach and had a 100-59 (.629) career record. She earned her 100th win in the Tigers 3-2 win at UC Irvine on Nov. 19 in Irvine, Calif. The Tigers were 16-14 in 2005, missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.  

 

McHugh took over as the fourth head coach in the history of the program at Pacific in 2001. In her first season, she led the Tigers to a 28-8 overall record and a 15-3 mark in Big West play. McHugh guided Pacific to its 19th NCAA Regional appearance in her inaugural campaign.  

 

McHugh followed that effort by leading the Tigers to a 19-13 overall mark and a second round NCAA Tournament appearance in 2002. She also led Pacific to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with an 18-14 overall record in 2003. In 2004, McHugh and Pacific appeared in its 24th consecutive NCAA appearance and finished the season with a 19-10 record. The Tigers finished 2005 with a 16-14 record and an 8-6 mark in the Big West Conference.
